My grandfather´s first choice
"My grandfather Ernst NAUMANN (2.11.1918 - 27.5.1977) enjoyed classic and refreshing white wines and juicy red wines from small, trusted winemakers dedicated to quality and origin. He always liked this style of wine, paired with all kinds of delicious food.
I remember endless evenings with his foreign guests and friends in so called 'Heuriger' or 'Buschenschank'. These places were very popular and spread around the wine growing regions in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, and Styria. At that time, you could even bring your own food and enjoy it together with young wines from the winemaker. All the wines were served together with simple food (spreads, sausages, roast pork, cheese, lard, and dark bread) that you could buy for little money. The children like me drank lemonade, played in the garden, or listened to the elders enjoying summer evenings outside their homes.
When we searched a name for our CLASSIC AUSTRIAN WINES brand, I suddenly had my GRANDFATHER´s CHOICE in mind. Soon we decided to use his FAMILY NAME, which made me really happy as he was an important and well trusted person for my life."
White Wines - Classic & refreshing
Austria’s classic white wines have a satisfying freshness and fine acidity, alongside plenty of elegance, strong character and medium-bodied structure. Their typically unobtrusive nature allows even the most subtle flavours in dishes to unfold.
All of these wines display marvellous versatility at the table. They are equally at home alongside an amuse-bouche or a light starter, a summery salad with fresh herbs, sheep’s or goat’s cheese, cold starters of ham, bacon and strongly flavoured sausages, or grilled chicken. Austria’s classic whites pair especially well with fish – whether poached, chargrilled or prepared in a light terrine – and fresh shellfish, or stir-fried Asian dishes with al dente vegetables.

Red Wines - Classic
Intensely dark, powerful red wines with a high alcohol content may have been all the rage in the 1990s and 2000s, but today’s trend leans towards lively, delicate wines displaying varietal typicity. This is very good news for the Austrian wine industry because refreshing, light-footed wines are one of the areas in which the country’s vintners excel.
The Austrian climate continues to be cooler than that in more southerly wine-growing countries. As a result, Austria’s talented red-wine producers have absolutely no trouble achieving lively fruitiness, light-footedness and good drinkability in their wines. When deciding on when to harvest, vintners no longer regard maximum sugar gradation as the be-all and end-all, but also pay attention to harmonious acidity, fresh, fruity aromas and a moderate alcohol content. Furthermore, winemakers are increasingly opting for shorter maceration – this means that fewer tannins are extracted from the skins, which tends to result in smoother red wines that can be drunk sooner. A somewhat paler, transparent red wine is also welcomed, promising both relaxed, enjoyable drinking and authenticity.
